ACM Lenten 2011 Newsletter

Dear Friends of Annapolis College Ministry:

Glory to Jesus Christ!  As we progress in our Lenten journey, abiding with Christ in the desert, fighting our passions through repentance, and asking Christ to heal us of our sin-sickness, we are reminded of God’s great love and mercy toward us.  In our fasting we learn to bring balance back between our bodies and our souls.  We appreciate and thank God for the food we do eat—all those vegetables—while also learning that “man does not live by bread alone.”  The same goes for our tithing and alms.  All we have ultimately belongs to God and is a gift from Him.

We’re so thankful for your faithful support of ACM, for your belief in the importance of full-time college ministry and the real difference it makes in the lives of our young people, our future leaders and families.  We remember you in our prayers, and in the commemorations of the Divine Liturgy.  You are a vital part of the Body of Christ that makes this outreach to the students of the USNA and St. John’s College possible.

With your support—and only with your support—ACM continues to grow in its ability to minister to the students, faculty, and staff of these two historic collegiate institutions.   Since our last newsletter in November, we’ve seen much blessing. . .

2010 Nov. Advent Newsletter

Dear Friends of Annapolis College Ministry (ACM): I write to you with great thanksgiving! Through your faithful contributions, we have been able to expand the ministry to the students at St. John’s and the Naval Academy in accordance with the vision that we presented to you earlier this year. Here’s a brief summary of some of our regular ministry activities on (and off) the campuses that you help make possible:

July 2010 Newsletter

Plebe Summer 2010 is here! Glory to Jesus Christ! The new plebes (freshmen) have arrived and we are two weeks in to our annual ministry to this year’s incoming class at the U.S. Naval Academy. This year, they come from such vastly different places as American Samoa to Mississippi to the Northeast to the Republic of Georgia. As in past years our emphasis in teaching is on Godly Leadership: what it means to bring your communion with Christ to bear on your formation at the USNA and your military service. In all areas of our life we want to strive to glorify God; serving in the military is no different, and living for Christ is, in fact, all the more necessary!

5th Week of Great Lent

Dear Friend of Annapolis College Ministry:

Glory to Jesus Christ!  Glory to Him forever!  Lent provides a great opportunity to focus on what’s most important.  As we struggle for healing from our sin-sickness and grow in our life in Christ, we are reminded through our increased prayer and fasting how to be thankful.

Last time I wrote to you last Fall, a new year of ministry at St. John’s and the U.S.  Naval Academy was just starting.  I shared our vision of reaching out to the women and men of both these venerable institutions with their own weekly Bible studies on the Orthodox Faith and increased opportunities for both communities to worship and grow together.  All this has happened and so much more…
