October 2007 Newsletter

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory to Him forever! I pray this newsletter update finds you well. Thank you for your faithful support of Annapolis College Ministry. It is much appreciated. Your contributions and prayers enable us to reach out to the college students and others at the U.S. Naval Academy and St. John’s College in Annapolis, strengthening the faith of those already Orthodox and helping others to come to the knowledge and love of Christ and His holy Church.

Plebe Summer has passed at the Naval Academy and the new academic year has begun at both the USNA and St. John’s College. Our OCF at the Academy comprises Orthodox from many different jurisdictions: Greek, OCA, and Antiochian—all learning together what it means to learn and apply the Orthodox Faith to their daily lives.

Stephen Richards and Sdn. Robert upon Stephen's reception into the catechumenate at St. Nicholas OCA Cathedral, D.C.

At St. John’s we have been able to have several special events already this Fall, including watching Ostrov (The Island), a Russian film about a holy ‘fool for Christ,’ which was attended by some midshipmen from the Academy as well. We also prayed the Akathist to St. Herman, which was led by Father Gregory Mathewes-Green and followed by an audio/visual presentation I gave on Orthodox Alaska.

In addition to weekly meetings at the USNA and meetings several days of the week at St. John’s, I meet throughout the week with students at both campuses to encourage them in applying the faith to their daily lives.

We appreciate and need your prayers and support to keep this ministry viable.
